Finally! The day that Eliza Jane and Boots had been waiting for was here! Uncle William had borrowed a wagon and was taking her, Boots and Grandmother to the new bridge and the Island! It was a lovely Autumn Sunday afternoon and there were many families headed that way!
Grandmother had filled a picnic basket full of her fried chicken, corn bread and pickles! Once they made it to the Island, they walked until they reached a nice new stone shelter that wasn't too crowded! While Grandmother and Uncle William set up the lunch, Eliza Jane and Boots walked down to the edge of the Erie Barge Canal to explore! What fun when they spotted several turtles sunning themselves on an old log! Just then Grandmother called her up to eat....and what a fine meal it was!
