Geocache Description:

TOTU: Trails of the Unconfirmed!

This is a letterbox cache and is at the published coordinates. Please do not remove the stamp or the ink, they are not for trading.

This cache is one stop on a circuit that leads you around Romney Marsh, taking in Old Romney, New Romney the Rhee Wall, Wallingham Sewer, Caldecot Petty Sewer, White Kemp Sewer and numerous fields, farms and footpaths and tracks. There is no particular start and finish location, choose a point that suits you. The walk has been set up to follow a clockwise direction due to the inclusion of a number of multi caches. There is parking in both Old Romney and New Romney. Old Romney offers pub and cafe facilities, while New Romney has a whole high street of shops and eateries to help you plan you day.

This particular loop measures approximately 5 1/2 miles. While that's not particularly long do not be fooled into thinking that this is a straight-forward stroll in the countryside... this walk follows some of the less travelled footpaths in the area. Be prepared for unkept rights of way, overgrown tracks and generally challenging conditions on some parts of the series. I would definitely recommend long trousers and good footwear. If you choose shorts and sandals be prepared for some pain... you WILL get stung and scratched as you progress!

There are three points in the circuit where you will need to cross the road, the A259 twice and also the Romney Road. Both roads are busy and traffic moves fast. There are also a few short sections along quiet lanes... and if you find yourself in a field please watch out for machinery and livestock!

I would not recommend walking this series after dark. The marsh can be an unforgiving place, there are deep, water filled ditches awaiting anyone who strays too far from the footpath.

You are responsible for your own health and safety. Please take care, especially with kids and animals.

OK? Disclaimer over... now go and have fun!
