Welcome (or welcome back) to Chippewa Creek (CCT = Chippewa Creek Trail). We've paddled it all, multiple times, and this is our favourite section.
You can expect to see wildlife. While placing we saw deer, beavers, muskrats, fish, toads, ducks (even babies) and birds of all sizes. We saw very few people. And unlike further down the Welland River, it is exceedingly rare to see motor boats in this section. This is 'the Creek'.
Now... the more challenging part.
You're in for a LONG paddle. On the day we placed this, we paddled 22 km. round trip. At time of placement, there is no other legal public access to get on and off the river than the launch point. So go prepared for a long (and possibly hot!) day.
All caches were placed by canoe and are intended to be retrieved by canoe or kayak. Play safe.
To assist you in retrieval , if you can reach the cache from canoe or kayak, the terrain is rated 4.5. If you have to exit your boat, it is a 5 terrain.
Please be aware that conditions on the creek vary greatly depending on recent rains. The caches were placed in late June when the water levels were low. In spring, it is at least a foot higher.
