In questo luogo possiamo vedere le due linee che confluivano alla stazione di Fermignano. La linea che porta ad Urbino comincia la sua salita verso la bellissima città proprio qui, e sempre qui scavalca un passaggio pedonale tramite un piccolo cavalcavia in mattoni. La seconda linea invece, che porta a Fano, giace a livello del terreno ad est rispetto alla prima.

In this place, we can see the two lines that flowed to the Fermignano station. The line that brings to Urbino begins its ascent towards the beautiful city right here, and always here it passes above a pedestrian crossing through a small brick-built overpass. The second line instead, which leads to Fano, lies at ground level to the east of the first.

Storia:

Ferrovia Urbino-Fabriano

Questa linea ferroviaria avrebbe dovuto far parte, secondo i progetti iniziali, di un collegamento molto più esteso denominato Ferrovia Subappennina il quale non venne mai realizzato.

Il primo tratto fu aperto il 28 aprile 1895 tra Fabriano e Pergola, mentre Urbino fu raggiunta tre anni dopo, il 20 settembre 1898.

Nel 1944, la tratta subì pesanti danni ad opera dei tedeschi in ritirata, compreso il percorso oltre Urbino, non ancora completato. Al termine del conflitto, solo la sezione tra Pergola e Fabriano venne riattivata, il 20 maggio 1947, mentre le rimanenti tratte furono abbandonate, ad eccezione del breve tronco tra Fermignano e Urbino. Quest' ultimo venne riaperto il 2 febbraio 1956 allo scopo di collegare direttamente Urbino a Fano impiegando la ferrovia Fano-Urbino, non venne invece riattivato il tronco Fermignano-Pergola, privando così la ferrovia di continuità.

Il servizio venne sospeso il 31 gennaio 1987 con la chiusura della tratta Fano-Urbino.

Ferrovia Fano-Urbino

Questa linea ferroviaria univa l'entroterra marchigiano con la costa adriatica.

Essa inizia come diramazione della ferrovia Bologna-Ancona presso Fano e prosegue lungo la valle del fiume Metauro attraversando la provincia di Pesaro e Urbino confluendo poi nella linea Urbino-Fabriano, presso Fermignano.

Il 16 novembre 1911, fu approvata la convenzione per l'esercizio della ferrovia a vapore Fano-Fossombrone-Fermignano, il 25 aprile 1915 la ferrovia collegò Fano a Fossombrone, e venne inaugurata il 1 maggio successivo, il 30 novembre 1916 arrivò a Fermignano dove si congiunse con la linea Urbino-Fabriano.

Tuttavia nel 1932 la società che la gestiva venne dichiarata fallita per bancarotta e la ferrovia venne chiusa a partire dal 1 gennaio 1933.

Il 2 febbraio 1942 venne riaperto all'esercizio il tratto Fano-Fossombrone mentre il 17 maggio successivo venne riaperto il restante tratto fino a Fermignano, entrambi sotto la gestione di Ferrovie dello Stato, ma il servizio ferroviario ebbe termine nuovamente nel 1943 a causa della Seconda Guerra Mondiale.

La ferrovia venne distrutta nel luglio 1944 dai tedeschi in ritirata, della Fano-Urbino non rimasero che rovine.

Il 7 novembre 1948 fu ripristinata la tratta Fano-Fossombrone. Il 2 ottobre 1955 seguì la tratta Fossombrone-Fermignano ed il 1 febbraio 1956 la restante Fermignano-Urbino, ridando così vita al collegamento diretto tra Fano e Urbino via Fermignano che, diventata stazione di testa, costringeva i treni ad un regresso.

La linea fu sospesa dall'esercizio il 31 gennaio 1987, l'ultimo treno fu il regionale 5662, effettuato con l'ALn 668-1935, e partì da Pesaro alle 18:55 per giungere ad Urbino alle ore 20:00.

Dai primi anni 2000 l'Associazione Ferrovia Valle Metauro si batte per la riapertura della linea, occupandosi con i suoi soci della manutenzione ordinaria dell'infrastruttura.

Il 15 dicembre 2011 l'allora amministrazione provinciale, a causa della decisa contrarietà al suo ripristino e al suo mantenimento, la dichiarò ufficialmente dismessa, ma essa rimane tuttavia integra sia nel percorso che nelle opere d'arte (Ponti, gallerie e fabbricati).

History:

Urbino-Fabriano railway

This railway should have been part of a much more extensive link called the Subappennina Railway which was never built.

The first section was opened on 28 April 1895 between Fabriano and Pergola, while Urbino was reached three years later, on 20 September 1898.

In 1944, the section suffered heavy damage by the retreating Germans, including the route beyond Urbino, which has not yet been completed. At the end of the conflict, only the section between Pergola and Fabriano was reactivated, on May 20, 1947, while the remaining sections were abandoned, except the short section between Fermignano and Urbino. This last one was reopened on February 2, 1956, to directly connect Urbino to Fano using the Fano-Urbino railway, instead, the Fermignano-Pergola trunk was not reactivated, thus depriving the railway of continuity.

The service was suspended on 31 January 1987 with the closure of the Fano-Urbino section.

Fano-Urbino railway

This railway line connected the Marche hinterland with the Adriatic coast.

It begins as a branch of the Bologna-Ancona railway in Fano and continues along the valley of the Metauro river crossing the province of Pesaro and Urbino, then merging into the Urbino-Fabriano line, in Fermignano.

On November 16, 1911, the convention for the operation of the Fano-Fossombrone-Fermignano steam railway was approved.

On 25 April 1915, the railway connected Fano to Fossombrone and was inaugurated the following 1 May, on 30 November 1916 it arrived in Fermignano where it joined the Urbino-Fabriano line.

However, in 1932 the company that managed it was declared bankrupt and the railway was closed starting from 1 January 1933.

On February 2, 1942, the Fano-Fossombrone section was reopened, the remaining section towards Fermignano was reopened on May 17, both under the management of the State Railways, but the rail service ended again in 1943 due to the WW2.

The railway was destroyed in July 1944 by the retreating Germans, of the Fano-Urbino only ruins remained.

On 7 November 1948, the Fano-Fossombrone section was restored. On 2 October 1955 the Fossombrone-Fermignano section followed and on 1 February 1956 the remaining Fermignano-Urbino, thus restoring the direct connection between Fano and Urbino via Fermignano which, having become the head station, forced the trains to regress.

The line was suspended from the exercise on 31 January 1987, the last train was the regional 5662, carried out with the ALn 668-1935, and departed from Pesaro at 18:55 to reach Urbino at 20:00.

Since the early 2000s, the "Ferrovia Valle Metauro Association" has been fighting for the reopening of the line, dealing, with its members, in the routine maintenance of the infrastructure.

On December 15, 2011, the then provincial administration declared it officially abandoned due to its strong opposition to its restoration and maintenance, but it nevertheless remains intact both on the way and in the works of art (bridges, tunnels and buildings).
