Das Große Höllenthal wird auf beiden Seiten von steilen, oft senkrechten Felswänden begrenzt - ein Eldorado für Kletterer. Von hier führt kein einziger einfacher Wanderweg auf die Rax, dafür aber einige versicherte Steige, auf Neudeutsch Klettersteige.
Ganz hint' im Tal lassen sich zwei dieser Steige durch einen dritten zu einer schönen Runde verbinden.
Um diese Letterbox zu finden musst du den Alpenvereinssteig hinauf bis zur Abzweigung des Gustav-Jahn-Steiges, über diesen zum Gaislochsteig queren und dort hinunter. Alle drei Steige sind Klettersteige der Kategorie B, wobei sie immer nur passagenweise versichert sind und einiges Gehgelände aufweisen, weshalb ich sie eher als alpine Steige bezeichnen würde. Gerade dadurch ist diese Runde aber unbedingt ernst zu nehmen, da vor allem der Alpenvereinssteig auch heikle aber unversicherte Stellen aufweist. Der Gustav-Jahn-Steig ist teilweise ziemlich ausgesetzt, der Gaislochsteig ist eigentlich immer nass, aber sehr gut versichert und nur kurz und somit meiner Meinung nach der angenehmere Abstiegsweg.
Genaue Infos zu den Steigen findet ihr leicht im Internet.
Da hint' im Höllenthal bleibt im Frühjahr der Schnee lange liegen, der die Steige für Otto (oder Anna) Normalcacher unpassierbar macht und es herrscht auch lange hohe Steinschlaggefahr. Außerdem rinnt sehr viel Wasser über den Gaislochsteig so lange auf der Hochfläche darüber noch Schnee liegt. Man muss dann sogar einen kleinen Wasserfall queren und wird ordentlich nass.
Wartet also bitte im Frühling unbedingt lang genug ab und geht die Tour nur bei guten Verhältnissen.
Welche Ausrüstung man mitbraucht sollte der mündige Erwachsene selbst entscheiden, auf den Helm solltet ihr aber keinesfalls verzichten!
Im Gaisloch fühlt man sich manchmal bisserl wie im Tröpferlbad, bei kühlem Wetter und viel Wasser könnte ein Ersatzleiberl im Rucksack oder im Auto also angenehm sein.
Die Tour lässt sich übrigens gut ausdehnen, indem man den Alpenvereinssteig zunächst ganz hinaufsteigt bis zur schönen Höllentalaussicht (GC7ZWBY)und oben nach Belieben Aussicht genießt, weiterwandert oder cacht. Anschließend muss man dann aber wieder den selben Weg runter zum Gustav Jahn Steig um diese Runde fortzusetzen. Bis zur Höllentalaussicht und retour solltet ihr mit einer Stunde reiner Gehzeit zusätzlich rechnen..
Vergesst nicht die Fotos für den Virtual GC890FJ von Lordfisch. Das Steigbuch des AV-Steiges findet ihr gleich oberhalb der langen Leiter bei der Kreuzung mit den GJ-Steig.
Wie bei jeder Letterbox muss auch hier der Stempel in der Dose bleiben!
Falls du für deinen Stempel oder Fingerabdruck ein Stempelkissen brauchst, bring dir bitte selbst eines mit, es ist keines im Cache.
So, jetzt gehts aber los.
Gehe vom Parkplatz zum Einstieg des Alpenvereinssteiges. Du kannst ihn kaum verpassen, auch wenn die Headerkoords wegen der Wand sehr ungenau sind.
Zunächst geht es über steile Leiterkombinationen nach oben. Hier kannst du noch ganz entspannt klettern ohne irgendwas zu zählen.
**Danach folgt ein kurzes Stück einfaches Gehgelände, bevor du zu einer einzelnen steilen Leiter kommst.
Wieviele Sprossen hat sie? Nimm die Anzahl als A
Es geht weiter über viel Gehgelände unterbrochen von kurzen versicherten Passagen.
**Wenn du ein ganzes Stück höher gekommen bist, helfen dir ein paar eiserne Trittplatten über einen schrägen Felsen.
Wieviele sind es? Die Anzahl sein B.
**Wenn du dich dann langsam fragst ob die Abzweigung denn nie kommt, erreichst du bald eine schräge Rampe. Auch hier findest du wieder Trittplatten.
Zähle auch diese und nimm die Anzahl als C.
Gleich nach der Rampe stehst du an der Abzweigung zum Gustav-Jahn-Steig und musst dich entscheiden, ob du ihn gleich weitergehst oder nach einer Unterbrechung wieder kommst.
Weiter gehts am Gustav-Jahn-Steig.
Auch er beginnt mit Gehgelände.
**Bald kommst du aber zum ersten Seil. Zähle hier wie oft es im Fels verankert ist. Schau aber genau, denn eine Seilklemme tut nur so als ob, und nimm die Anzahl als D.
**Etwas später erreichst du das Steigbuch neben einer Tafel. Mit wie vielen Schrauben ist das Steigbuch (bzw natürlich die Kassette) an die Wand geschraubt? Die Anzahl sei E.
Wenn du dann die Einmündung zum Gaislochsteig erreichst, rechne dir mal X aus. Später im Tröpferlbad wirst du vielleicht froh sein, wenn du nur noch Y brauchst.
X=(C+E)*B-(A+D-1)+E
Nun gehts den Gaislochsteig hinunter.
**An wie vielen Stellen ist das erste Drahtseil im Fels verankert? Nimm die Anzahl als F.
**Der Abstieg ist gleich geschafft, wenn du eine liegende Leiter (einen Steg) erreichst. Zähle die Sprossen und nimm die Anzahl als G.
Gleich danach siehst du das Steigbuch. Rechne nun Y aus, das geht gut im Kopf.
Y=(G+1)*20+3*F
Peile vom Steigbuch aus Xm und Y° und finde den Schatz!

The Große Höllenthal is bordered on both sides by steep, often vertical rock faces - an Eldorado for climbers. From here not a single easy hiking trail leads to the Rax, but some via ferrata.
At the far end of the valley, two of these trails can be connected by a third one to form a beautiful round.
To find this letterbox you have to climb the Alpenvereinssteig up to the junction of the Gustav-Jahn-Steig, cross over it to the Gaislochsteig and down there. All three routes are via ferrata of category B, whereby they are always only insured in passages and have some walking terrain, which is why I would rather call them alpine routes. But that's why this round has to be taken seriously, because the Alpenvereinssteig in particular also has some sensitive but uninsured places. The Gustav-Jahn-Steig is partly quite exposed, the Gaislochsteig is actually always wet, but very well insured and only short and therefore in my opinion the more pleasant descent.
It is easy to find detailed information about the trails in internet.
In spring, the snow remains long behind in the Höllenthal, making the path impassable for the normal cacher, and there is also a high risk of falling rocks for a long time. Moreover, a lot of water runs over the Gaislochsteig as long as there is snow on the plateau above. You even have to cross a small waterfall and get wet.
So please wait long enough in spring and only do the tour in good conditions.
Which equipment one needs should be decided by the responsible adult himself, but you should not do without the helmet!
In the Gaisloch, one sometimes feels a bit like in a drip bath, in cool weather and lots of water, a spare shirt in the backpack or in the car could be pleasant.
By the way, the tour can be easily extended by first climbing up the Alpenvereinssteig to the beautiful Höllental view (GC7ZWBY) and then enjoying the view at the top, hiking on or caching. Afterwards, you have to follow the same path down to the Gustav Jahn Steig again to continue this round. Until you reach the Höllental view and return you should expect an additional hour of pure walking time.

Here we go!
Go from the parking lot to the entrance of the Alpenvereinssteig. You can hardly miss it, even if the header kords are inaccurate because of the wall.
First you have to climb up steep ladder combinations. Here you can still climb in a relaxed manner without counting anything.
**After that follows a short piece of simple walking terrain before you come to a single steep ladder.
How many rungs does it have? Take the number as A.
It continues over a lot of walking terrain interrupted by short insured passages.
**If you have come a long way higher, a few iron steps over a sloping rock will help you. How many are there? The number his B.
**If you then slowly ask yourself whether the Gustav-Jahn-Steig will never come, you will soon reach a sloping ramp. Also here you will find iron steps again.
Count also this and take the number as C.
Right after the ramp you are standing at the turn-off to the Gustav-Jahn-Steig and have to decide whether you want to continue it immediately or come back after an interruption.
Continue on the Gustav-Jahn-Steig.
It also begins with walking terrain.
**But soon you will come to the first rope.
Count here how often it is anchored in the rock. But look carefully, because a rope clamp only acts as if, and take the number as D.
