Geocache Description:

I stopped at the store and a location for a cache called at me.

The cache is not at the posted coordinates, but those of us who have access to google now can solve this puzzling challenge.

In 1960, car buyers were demanding smaller vehicles. Compact cars were marketed heavily by every automobile manufacturer, in stark contrast to the 1950s. New models included the Ford Falcon, the Chevrolet Corvair and the Plymouth Valiant. Soon after, Lincoln-Mercury released the Comet and Dodge introduced the Dart. Midway through 1960, General Motors announced that it would offer three smaller cars, the Buick Special, the Oldsmobile F-85 and the Pontiac Tempest. This focus on smaller cars domestically caused a sharp drop in import sales.

U.S retail buyers had 266 different models to choose from, with a standard price spread of $1,795 for a Rambler American sedan to $13,075 for the limited-edition Cadillac Eldorado Brougham. In general prices did not change much at all from the preceding year.

The 4-door sedan was still the best seller, but station wagons were increasing in popularity and ranked second in all sales over the sportier 2-door vehicle.

Engineering improvements aimed at improving economy of use. Aluminum replaced iron and steel to reduce weight in some models. There were adjustments made to combustion chamber design and compression ratios that aided fuel economy. Mechanical advances were on display as we saw the first rear-engine car made in America, the Chevy Corvair.

America’s favorite pastime began to revert to its traditional roots in 1991 with the rebirth of the old fashioned ball park. After two decades of domed stadiums, baseball fans once again demanded natural grass, blue skies and intimacy with the action.

The owners responded with the new Comiskey Park and Camden Yards. Also new stadiums were right around the corner for the Rangers, Indians and Tigers.

Duke began and solidified its prestige in the 1990s, with Coach K becoming a legend. One of the most amazing college basketball moments of all time happened in 1992 when Christian Laettner drilled that last second jump shot to beat Kentucky in the Final Four.

I remember watching that game with my brother at my grandma’s house — we were just kids, but we both hated Duke for unknown reasons. My brother actually cried.

Shaquille O’Neal first terrorized college backboards, then he took his massive talents to Orlando. He also became a national celebrity acting, rapping and just being a huge, famous person.

A. No American car manufacturer introduced a new model in 194A. Only Japan and Germany did and they were incredibly tiny amounts. No one was really worried about buying a new car. They were more concerned with building airplanes and tanks. As far as cars are concerned, WWII has shut down the industry.

B. Materials shortages, although getting much better in 195B, had inspired new ways to make car bodies. Two different cars were introduced in 195B: one with a magnesium body and the other was plastic-fiberglass.

C. In 199C, Ford motors announced its decision to buy the Swedish car company Volvo, for $6.4 billion. Volvo’s sales did not compare to Ford’s, but Ford believed that the purchase would improve their profits.

Ford announced it would build two new types of cars, a small one called the Focus and a light luxury truck, the Lincoln Blackwood.

D. For the first time, the US imported more cars than it exported. Volkswagen was the most popular foreign car company.

At this time the automobile industry dreamed of a time when a one-car family would be insufficient and people would buy different cars for different uses for different family members.

Chevrolet made striking changes to rear-end styling in their 195D models. Ford offered a full line of luxury model Continentals as well as the medium-priced Edsel. The 195D Oldsmobile had a completely redesigned body.

E. Two manufacturers introduced new “small” cars during 195E, to meet the demand for (1) an economical second car for middle income families and (2) a car whose initial price placed it within reach of many people who previously had to buy used cars. Just how strong the demand was in each of these cases had yet to be established.

F. Nolan Ryan threw his sixth career no-hitter for the Texas Rangers on June 11, at age 43. Even at that age, Ryan was zipping the ball by batters at 95 miles per hour, and led the league in strikeouts with 232. Ryan’s was one of a record nine no-hitters thrown in 19F0.
