Geocache Description:

Similar to many other old temples in the town of Lamphun, it believed that Wat Ton Kaew was built dutring the reign of Phra Nang Cham Thewi in the 7th century. A group of  villagers led by Mae Fei helped build the new temple after the former Wat Don Kaew went into ruines.

The temple also houses a small museum show casting the history of Yong people along with old pictures of Lamphun town and a collection of antiques.

History: Wat Ton Keaw Museum or Baan Wieng Yong Museum founded by Phra Krua Paisarn Theerakhun, the abbot of Wat Ton Keaw in 1987. Started with a collection of rare antiques and appliances that Yong people used in everyday life in the past. Later, local people brought some old items and gradually donated more to the temple. The place has since become a museum. The museum is divided into two display buildings.

The first building was rebuilt which collects Buddhist artifacts and objects such as wooden Buddha images, ceramic Buddha images and Dhama book chests, silverware, Kantoke(ขันโตก) basketries and weaving objects. These items are objects that Yong people used previously in everyday life.

The second building is an old wooden building, which displays items such as  fans of rank and many old well-known amulets; Phra Rod (พระรอด), Phra Kong (พระคง), Phra Leu (พระลือ), Phra Leang (พระเลี่ยง), Phra Bperm (พระเปืม), Phra Sib-Song (พระสิบสอง), Phra Lob (พระลบ) etc. Moreover, it is the place for performing the ceremony to prolong peoples life. All in all, the museum is the place that Yong people use as a tool to pass their cultures to the younger generations whilst learning the history and inherit these cultures to the next generation.
