The Calasetta tower was founded in 1757 during the Savoy era, just before the Calasetta foundation, which took place in 1770.
The direction of the works and the project were of a certain engineer Solerj. It was built with local stones and other materials from nearby zones of Matzaccara or San Pietro's island. Unemployed workers from Carloforte were called for the construction, in order not to distract too many people of Calasetta from agricultural work.
The original entrance to the toweris located about 5 m from the ground. The interior is divided into three fields: a large semicircular entrance which communicates with two back rooms. A masonry staircase built on the wall thickness, enable the access to the terrace.
The purpose of the "Cala di Seta" tower, as well as the older one in Portoscuso, was to control the island of San Pietro, the town and the population of Calasetta.
The tower was headed by an Alcade (commander of the tower) whith from 3 to 16 soldiers at his orders. The tower was equipped with weapons and ammunition, including two 8-gauge iron cannons.
The tower, since its origins, is the symbol of the town of Calasetta.
The cache: it is easy to find, but be very careful! lots of people lives there and it is a frequented panoramic point, try not to be seen and place the cache in a safe way, Thank you!

La torre di Calasetta fu costruita nel 1757, in piena epoca sabauda, poco prima della fondazione di Calasetta, avvenuta nel 1770.
La direzione dei lavori e probabilmente anche il progetto si deve ad un certo Ingegner Solerj.
Fu realizzata con pietre di trachite locale e altre pietre provenienti da località vicine (probabilmente zona di Matzaccara o isola di San Pietro).
Per non distogliere troppi calasettani dai lavori agricoli, per la costruzione furono chiamati anche operai disoccupati di Carloforte.
L’ingresso originario è situato a circa 5 m dal suolo e l’accesso alla torre era consentito da una sorte di ponte levatoio che veniva manovrato dall’interno. L’interno risulta suddiviso in tre vani: un ampio ingresso semicircolare, che comunica con due locali retrostanti. Una scala in muratura, ricavata all’interno dello spessore della parete, consente l’accesso alla terrazza (piazza d’armi).
Lo scopo della torre di "Cala di Seta", così come quella più antica di Portoscuso, era il controllo del Canale di san Pietro per la difesa dagli attacchi dei pirati barbareschi delle tonnare, della città di Carloforte e, più tardi, dell’abitato e della popolazione di Calasetta.
Nella torre prestava servizio un Alcade (comandante della torre) ai cui ordini erano dai 3 ai 16 soldati.
La torre era dotata di armi e munizioni, compresi due cannoni di ferro calibro 8.
La torre, sin dalle origini, è considerata il simbolo del paese e per questa ragione è rappresentata nel gonfalone del Comune di Calasetta.
La cache: è facile da trovare, ma fai molta attenzione! Molte persone vivono lì ed è un punto panoramico frequentato, cerca di non essere visto e riposiziona la cache in modo sicuro, grazie!
