The River Lee Navigation is a canalised river incorporating the River Lee (also sometimes spelt River Lea). The river runs from Hertford Castle Weir to Bow Creek/Limehouse Basin, where it meets the River Thames. Historically the river was used to transport goods from Hertfordshire to London, particularly grain. Today the area forms part of the Lee Valley Regional Park, Tottenham Marshes, Walthamstow Marshes and runs parallel to the London 2012 Olympic Park. Extremely popular with walkers, cyclists and fishers, the pathways offer a great opportunity to see an abundance of wildlife and some of the rather beautiful and quirky barges moored at different points along the river. This is also a great walk(or cycle & dash; the path forms part of the National cycle network) if you are looking to avoid tramping through tons of pre and post winter mud as the paths are mostly gravel and really well looked after. Some areas along the walk are nicer than others so be prepared...this is London and as fantastic as it is, some spots aren't so pretty. That said, most are and some are rather stunning and more than make up for their less attractive cousins!
This series of about 100 caches consists of an assortment of small and medium lock-n-lock boxes containing various swaps at the time of planting and rather a lot of 35mm film canisters, some magnetic. Please bring your own pen. The walk is over 20 miles and follows the path of the River Lee/Navigation from Limehouse Basin, near Limehouse DLR station, to Broxbourne (not too far from Broxbourne train station and bus routes; now extended to Stanstead Lock. If you only want to walk in one direction, the overground train line runs almost parallel to the river and train times can be found at www.tfl.gov.uk.

There are a whole host of bars and cafes at Limehouse Basin and various points along the route where you can stop off for refreshment
