Memphis – Blade
This is a series for our dogs. Who attend our geocaching trips?
My big cuddly bear of a Rottweiler. His name exists as I am a big Elvis fan and thought Memphis suited him, however husband wanted to call him Blade after watching Blade Trinity. So, I compromised and gave him both names.
He loves his geocaching walks in different places and meeting new people. He has his own trackable log my dog tag.
This cache is placed here as this was his first area, he learnt to enjoy his walks at 10 weeks, ambling along beside his brothers and sister. When he became tired, he was placed in my friend’s handbag. But the next outing a few weeks later, no way was he going in the handbag.
Ossington Aerodrome:
The land is currently farmed by local farmers and only the residents have the rights to walk along the old runways.
During the Second World War a large RAF airfield was constructed on land close to the Ossington estate, known as RAF Station Ossington.
It opened on Sun 18 Jan 1942 as the home for Number 14 (Pilot) Advanced Flying Unit (No 14 (P) AFU) and transferred to No. 93 (Training) Group RAF Bomber Command in 1943. Finally, in January 1945 it transferred to RAF Transport Command No 6 Lancaster Finishing School.
It closed in August 1946. The hall formed part of the accommodation for the airfield
