I wanted to place a cache here -- I love this stretch of the creek with its sparkling, cascading little waterfalls and the beautiful music those waterfalls make. I was even going to call it “Trout Creek Symphony Hall”, that is until Murphy, of “Murphy’s Law”, decided to intervene.
I had found a good spot for the cache: accessible but a little out of the way & away from where muggle attention would be directed. The decon container was in position & camoed and I was moving to a different spot, to check it out from a different angle. Leaning over to try to catch a glimpse (I’m short), I impaled my forehead on a sharp, jagged, broken-off tree branch. The world went kind of dark, the wound immediately began flowing blood, & I had a vision of being eaten by a bear (before, even, this cache got published!).
Reeling, trying to see through the blood streaming down my face, I expressed, quite loudly, both my happiness at not poking myself in the eye with a sharp stick and my dismay in regard to poking myself in the face with a sharp stick. I quit when I realized I was leaving blood everywhere around GZ. I tried to staunch my wound, added a bit of camo to the hide, & went back to the trail. (If you see bloodstains you know you’re at GZ.)
The terrain rating for this accounts for the need to NOT impale yourself when hunting this cache and, besides, the amount of blood involved demands a terrain rating higher than a 2. To concuss myself on a 2 is just too embarrassing.
