Geocache Description:

While driving around the country side seeing God's beautiful creation and watching the sun set, I stumbled on this chapel. My first thought was wow, this is exactly what I needed today and it is so peaceful here. I can not keep this tranquil setting my own secret. This is a beautiful abandoned church. The scenic drive is just as beautiful. Please do not drive in the driveway if it is muddy. You may park on the road and walk to the cache, it is not far. Please use caution as to were you step. Stevens Chapel is the oldest existing church structure in Rawlins County. The construction of Stevens Chapel was completed in 1892. It was constructed from blocks of sandstone. The chapel is located approximately 12 miles southwest of Atwood. There is little to no other information on this abandoned church, other than there are many unknown and unmarked graves in the cemetery which is located behind the chapel. By 1962 the congregation had dwindled in size and discontinued regular Sunday services. The Church is now boarded up and locked as is the graveyard. Please treat this area with the up most respect. Do not cross any fences or gates. DO NOT go inside church. Do not deface church or headstones. Congrats to WFoxnTIG for the FTF
