Geocache Description:

Why this madness?

I have a number of friends who are convinced that there simply aren't enough multicaches in the area.  Multicaches can be fun when well executed and I hope you'll find this series of multicaches offers a pleasant trip into a number of parks and trails in the southern Snohomish county area.  Not a single cache is hidden under a lamp post in a parking lot with a million people watching you make the grab.

All the caches are simple multicaches where you'll get information from a sign or two and then calculating where the final hide is.  At each of the ten caches in this series, you'll find that either the log or the container (sometimes both) have been marked with a letter from A through J along with a corresponding number.  Take note of these numbers as you'll need them to find the final cache in the series Multicache Madness - FINAL.

Evergreen playfield

I ived in this neighborhood twenty years ago and I remember running my kids around here for events that the city of Mountlake Terrace was holding - everything from the Tour de Terrace festival in the summer to the Christmas Tree lighting in November. We went to softball games, soccer games and football games here and spent a lot of time walking the dog in the greenbelt which is nearby as well.  It was also the site of my very first LPC find in October 2008.  My log read "We found it quickly given the difficulty rating--first time for everything! It was a very clever place to put a hide. TFTC!"  Boy, if only I had known how many hundreds of other LPCs I would find over the next dozen years.

Calculating the final coordinates

At the posted coordinates, you'll find a bench that was built as an Eagle scout project.  Look at the plaque on the bench and then let:

  • a = the number of letters in the first name of the woman the bench was built in honor of
  • b= the number of letters in the middle name of the woman the bench was built in honor of
  • c = the number of letters in the last name of the woman the bench was built in honor of
  • de = the troop number of the Boy Scout who built the bench
  • f = the number of the month the bench was built
  • ghij = the year the bench was built

The final coordinates for this cache are at N47 4(f-e).(c+h)(e+j)(f+h-4) W122 1(c+i).(j-g)(a-b)(d-e-4)

The fifteen digit checksum for the final coordinates is 61.
