Like so many other areas of Guangzhou the contrast is striking between the main traffic-dominated roadway and what lays behind. Huanshi Lu, the busy road, is attractive enough and tree-lined but constantly crowded by high pedestrian flows squeezed into a narrow walkway. Tiansheng Village, just metres off Huanshi Lu, is a tranquil cluster of low-rise villa-like compounds and mid-rise apartment buildings. The No. 21 Middle School is located inside, and various education-oriented service outlets dominate the ground-floor non-residential uses slowly seeping into the area.
There are three narrow access roads to Huanshi Lu, and all are connected via an interior network of alleyways that wind around Tiansheng Village. Since there is no way out other than via one of the three laneways to Huanshi Lu, the only traffic is internal, and the only busy times for pedestrian activity are the morning, lunch and afternoon school movement times.
