Geocache Description:

These gates were originally one of the entrances to the Lethamhill Estate and house. Little information exists on the house but it was on maps from as far back as 1850s and appeared to have a fairly large ornate garden. The surrounding land had a quarry in later years that served the Gartcraig brickworks and stretches from here round to Hogganfield loch. The very top of the hill has housed a water reservoir from at least the 1870s and is still in use today. I haven't found the exact date it was converted to a golf course but it does seemed to be referenced in maps dating from before the first world war. My research continues so I hope to update this when I find out more.

There is no need to enter the grounds or climb the gates as the cache is reachable from the pavement side. Please note that there is no car parking in the immediate area - if you are arriving by car, park sensibly and be aware that the junction is notoriously dangerous.
