Geocache Description:

HUYTON WETLANDS

Known locally as 'The Cowie' this marshy land to the South-East of Huyton Lane, was designated 'Huyton Wetlands Park' by Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council in 1988, as a site for nature conservation and recreation.

It is a peaceful haven for local wildlife where you can sit and enjoy the birdsong. It's not a particularly large wetland park, but it is absolutely packed to the seams with all kinds of wildflowers and in spring/early summer looks terrific.

This land to the south of Huyton Lane was owned and farmed by the Molyneaux-Seel family who lived at Huyton Hey Manor on Seel Road. The source of the River Alt it's wet meadows were used for summer grazing for cattle until the 1930's.  (Hence the local nickname)
