Thanksgiving is a national holiday, celebrated in many countries around the world. Names change according to culture, but the heart of the meaning is the same...a day to give thanks for the plentiful harvest and to honor the sacrifice made by those who toiled all year to bring in the food!
In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November each year.
It dates back to when the Pilgrims and Puritans emigrated from England to settle in the newly colonized New England area during the 1620s. They received help from local Native tribes, learning which foods to grow and how to prepare enough to last through the harsh New England winters. As thanks, they shared a meal with the Native tribes.
There has been some debate about what and when and a few other details...but, the basic idea was that.
Now, Americans use the holiday to bring friends and family together to share stories, food, and thankfulness for having them in their lives.
We'll do sort of the same here. We'll join together as a geocaching community to share stories, discover TBs, and celebrate the joy of sharing this game.
In the Thankgiving spirit, I'll do my best to find a turkey and guests are welcome to join in by bringing something to share...but, do not feel obilgated. The only requirement to log your attend is to show up! There is no need to purchase or bring anything other than yourself!
