Geocache Description:

Noordhoek Beach: Sunset Steps

The cache, a small camo-taped tablet pot, is hidden near the foot of steps leading down to a sandy trail to the north end of the spectacular Noordhoek Beach and is another great place along the Atlantic coast of the Cape Peninsula to take in a stunning sunset.

It is placed in recognition of Family Behrens cache GC4FF1J Sunset which was hidden on 30/7/13 and archived on 14/11/18 after some 33 finds.

***Please take care to watch out for muggles heading to and from the beach at this popular spot. Use suitable stealth tactics and kindly ensure that the cache is carefully replaced properly concealed in its hiding place***

The CO kindly let me use the original cache description - with minor changes - as follows . . .

Noordhoek Beach is over 8 km long, and is the most unspoiled and best protected [beach] on the Atlantic Cape coast. At one end it is defined and dominated by Chapman’s Peak plunging into the sea, and at the other, by Kommetjie lighthouse. The beach is backed by Table Mountain National Park-protected wetlands, and so is fortunately free of the urban sprawl that characterizes - and compromises - many other Cape Town bays.

Behind the wetlands steeply rise magnificent mountains with their lower slopes densely overgrown with green coastal fynbos. Horse riding is a popular pastime in Noordhoek and several residents own horses stabled on their properties. Some also have riding schools with horses for hire for riding along the long flat sandy beach.

There are many walking and riding trails through the wetlands and along the beach. However, please heed the warning signs at access points to the beach, and do not walk/ride alone as there have been several unfortunate incidents over the years, especially towards the southern end near the wreck of the Kakapo.

Noordhoek village has a pleasant laid-back, rural vibe with an attractive common and paddocks, and charming local shops, restaurants and bars. It is linked to Cape Town by one of the world’s great roads, the spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive, with its incredible sea and mountain views (and several caches!) en route north to Hout Bay.

Please post photos of your sunset experience along with your log! Here is one from the original Sunset cache . . .
