Geocache Description:

17 November 2019, 11:00 - 11:30

Over the last 50 years, Milton Keynes has developed an excellent reputation for Public Art development, with over 220 Public Artworks across the city.

"Public Art in Milton Keynes is about inviting the vision, creativity, and skills of artists, to engage people freely with the place, in a well-considered way."

A quick short meet to introduce you to one of MK's sometimes forgotten pieces of artwork. The usual chatter and socialising are encouraged.

When: Sunday 17th November 11:00 to 11:30

Where: Meet next to the artwork "Octo".

Who: Geocachers near and far, new and old, everyone is welcome!

Octo: Wendy Taylor, 1980

Octo’s twisting ribbon of stainless steel makes a figure of eight, mounted on a reflecting pool. The sculpture is based on a Möbius strip, a mathematical term describing a continuous surface created by twisting a long rectangular strip through 180º and joining the ends. The form does not have an inside or an outside. This artwork was listed at Grade II in 2016.

'Octo' was one of the first public artworks to be installed in Milton Keynes. It was unveiled in 1980 and in 1983 chosen by Baroness Llewelyn-Davies to commemorate the role of her husband Richard Llewelyn-Davies (1912-81) in the design of Milton Keynes. Llewelyn-Davis was founding partner in Llewelyn-Davies, Weeks, Forestier-Walker and Bor, the practice which prepared the 1970 master plan of Milton Keynes.
