Old Uncle Tom Returns Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

It's been a little over a year since the cannon was sent for a new pair of legs, but he's back!

The Iron Cannon, nicknamed “Old Uncle Tom” in the olden days, was cast at the foundry that was located at the former Renseool Factory. This iron factory was a major industry in town at the time employing many men. “Old Uncle Tom” stands now, standing proudly at the corner of the first fire company in the Borough, the Mountaineer Hose Company. The cannon was fired quite extensively during our Nation’s 200th Bicentennial Celebration in 1976.  This piece of history is slowly starting to decay so please be careful
