Dr. Evil's Face Your Fears series of caches will highlight common phobias (fears) that many people have towards common everyday things or objects. Some phobias are steeped in years of conditioning and survival instinct. Some fears come from childhood experiences. Some fears are just irrational but cause anxiety and reaction nonetheless. Dr. Evil thought it would be interesting to create some caches just to see how cachers react to certain phobias. Each of the caches are designed to exploit, expose, and trigger a phobia response (assuming the cacher has that phobia). Many cachers will have no issues with these caches and some may decide to just DNF and walk away. Dr. Evil may add to the series from time to time as he gets a notion to. Good luck facing your fears!
This cache is Phasmophobia also known as the fear of Ghosts, Demons and the Supernatural. The word originates from Greek word phasmos which means supernatural being or phantom and phobos which means fear. This fear is deeply ingrained since childhood and often fueled further by TV shows as well as religion and culture. For people having extreme fear of ghosts, life can become a miserable existence. Many refuse to step outside after dark, or sleeping alone or turning out the lights. Halloween is an especially scary time of year. TV shows, Hollywood movies, culture or religions also steep in our fear of ghosts. Ghosts are portrayed as evil entities that injure, harm or have violent tendencies. Stories of ghosts taking away and murdering children or pets, finishing off one’s life savings or destroying households also trigger Spectrophobia. Many scientists believe that Phasmophobia is actually the fear of our own death or things to come. The concept of returning dead people as spirits haunting a household might sometimes be triggered by stress which comes from the belief that someone they are close to is about to die.
Symptoms of Phasmophobia may include a rapid heart rate, dizziness, hot or cold flashes, chest pain or tightening of the chest, a feeling of choking, trembling, sweating, nausea, or inability to think or act rationally. For individuals with an extreme case even just talking or thinking about ghosts, spirits, and phantoms can trigger a response.
For this cache you will have to Face Your Fear. Cache is a micro attached to a spirit being that hangs out on the backside of a tree. If you feel like you are being watched…well you are. Good luck. DNF's welcomed (insert Dr. Evil laugh)!
