Graham County was formed in 1872 from the northeastern part of Cherokee County. It was named for William A. Graham, United States Senator and Governor of North Carolina. The county seat is Robbinsville, which is also the largest town. According to he 2010 census, Graham County is the third least populous county in North Carolina.
