Geocache Description:

Who Kidnapped Sherlock Holmes?

THE GAME IS AFOOT!

The great detective Sherlock Holmes has been kidnapped!

Teams of detectives from Scotland Yard are attempting to solve this mystery and rescue him.

You are one of those detectives.

Your job is to revisit 12 of the most famous cases Sherlock Holmes solved and gather clues which will aid you in solving this mystery.

Be the first to rescue Sherlock Holmes and he himself will pin a special detective medal on you.

During your mission to solve this case, keep in mind the great truth which Sherlock Holmes said about detection: “When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”

A Clue Elimination Sheet has been provided for you below. Use it to check off the clues you uncover during your investigation and to determine “whatever remains”.

Use “whatever remains” with the Cipher Table to determine the coordinates needed to find and rescue Sherlock Holmes.

It’s elementary my dear Watson!”

Still don't understand what to do? Keep reading.

Hello Geocachers, Lets play a game based on the popular board game CLUE.

  • The Object of this game is to find out "Who Kidnapped Sherlock Holmes?"
  • The Cache is not at the posted coordinates but can be determined by playing along.
  • As the detective you will visit caches in search of clues.
  • Each cache is associated with a different case which Sherlock Holmes solved
  • At each cache you will find information about the case associated with it.
  • Look carefully through the written information at each cache for the names of the SUSPECTS and LOCATIONS on your list. Check off the ones you find in the information.
  • You will continue eliminating SUSPECTS and LOCATIONS until you have reduced your Clue list down to one SUSPECT and one LOCATION.
  • The values associated with that SUSPECT and LOCATION will be used with the Cipher Table to solve the missing coordinates.

RULES FOR THOSE PARTICIPATING IN THE COMPETITION AT THE MSGA FALL GATHERING ON NOVEMBER 9, 2019:

1. These rules are to insure fair play for everyone who participates in this competition.

2. Teams of Detectives will compete against each other for First, Second, and Third place Detective Medals.

3. A Team will consist of 1 to 6 individuals ALL RIDING TOGETHER IN THE SAME VEHICLE for the DURATION of the Sherlock Holmes competition. (A maximum of 6 individuals per Team!)

4. Teams may not work with, assist, or caravan with other Teams, because this would be unfair to other Teams (some of which may be individuals) competing in this game.

5. For competition awards purposes, a Team will not be considered to have arrived at the Final Coordinates until ALL of its Members are together at the Final Coordinates presenting their Team Clue Sheet to Sherlock Holmes. Members stick together!

6. If two or more complete teams arrive at the final at the same time, the competition mileage on their Team Clue Sheet will be used to break the ties. I have already recorded the minimum driving distance this game takes and will compare your mileage to it in the event of a tie! Don’t cheat!

7. Each individual member (up to 6 per team) of the three winning Teams will receive a Detective Medal at the Awards Ceremony during the Pot Luck Supper tonight at 5:00 P.M.

8. To enter this competition, Team Leaders must have registered all of their Team Members by no later than 8:30 am Saturday at the Registration Table at the Fall Gathering Event (GC8DDHF) Pavilion located at N 32° 19.175 W 089° 40.732

9. All Teams (and all Team members) must be present at the registration pavilion for the Group Photo and the Shotgun Start which will given by CaneMaster.

NOTE: To prevent non-competition participants from muggling the Clues used in this competition, the geocaches associated with this competition are not scheduled to be published by IshtKinta until after 9 am. However, Team Leaders may grab the complete list of coordinates (except for the Final of course!) from CaneMaster immediately following the Shotgun Start at 8:45 am.)

10. Registration, Start, and Awards Ceremony will all be at the Fall Gathering Event (GC8DDHF) Pavilion located at: N 32° 19.175 W 089° 40.732
