Yadkin County was formed in 1850 from part of Surry County. It was named for the Yadkin River. The county seat is Yadkinville, which is also its largest town. Yadkin County marks the eastern end of the Bushy Mountain range, of which none of its peaks rise to more than 400-500 feet above the surround countryside.
