Cette cache se trouve dans la cour d’un bâtiment construit en 1674 et se situe Rue de l’Armée de Grouchy. N'hésite pas à rentrer par le porche à gauche du bâtiment, ce n'est pas une propriété privée :)
Le maréchal de Grouchy fût accusé par l’empereur Napoléon d’avoir précipité sa défaite à Waterloo. Le maréchal de Grouchy avec sa troupe (30 000 hommes !) était absent des champs de bataille à Waterloo. Il s’apprêtait à y aller mais les troupes napoléoniennes essuyèrent la défaite juste avant leur départ. Informé de cela, de Grouchy décida de battre en retraite et de ramener ses hommes en sécurité en France, à Givet. Il était poursuivi de très près par l’Armée prussienne qui l’empêchait d’avancer à son rythme. D’importants batailles eurent lieu à Wavre et ici-même à Namur. Mais de Grouchy, en excellent stratège réussit à limiter le nombre de soldat tués, et la quasi-totalité de ses hommes arrivèrent sains et saufs à Givet.
La route de 94km que le maréchal de Grouchy emprunta depuis Wavre jusque Givet est désormais une route touristique créée dans le but de réhabiliter le nom de de Grouchy. Dans l’image populaire de l’époque : de Grouchy était à Napoléon ce que Judas est à Jésus. Celui qui le mena à sa perte. Cette fameuse route passait juste devant le bâtiment dans lequel vous vous trouvez.
