Lappajärvi syntyi noin 78 miljoonaa vuotta sitten meteoriitin törmätessä maapalloon. Kivitipun meteoriittikeskuksen tutkimushuoneessa voit itse ryhtyä hetkeksi tutkijaksi erilaisten mikroskooppien avulla. Kraatterin kivien salaisuudet avautuvat polarisaatiomikroskooppien avulla kirkkaina värimaailmoina.  Coesiitti, maskelyniitti, planaarielementit ja muut omaperäiset mineraalien muunnokset tulevat tutuiksi ja huomaat kivien mielenkiintoisen maailman vievän mennessään. Kiinteä yhteys Helsingin yliopiston geotieteiden laitokseen antaa mahdollisuuden osallistua paikalla olevan tutkijan kanssa mielenkiintoisiin kraatterin salaisuuksien tutkimiseen.
