Downfall Creek State School was established in 1900, on the corner of Gympie and Rode Roads, where the Uniting Church now stands. There were 50 students. The name was changed to Chermside in 1903. When World War II ended and the trams arrived, there was a population explosion, and the school's peak year was 1959, with enrolment passing 800. By 1996 there were only 25 half-time pupils in the preschool, and 60 primary pupils. The school was considered no longer economically viable as there was plenty of room in neighbouring schools.
The Uniting Church bought the block and offered the original building to the people of Chermside. It was cut in two and moved to the new Chermside Historical Precinct, lowered, and a ramp added. The Chermside & Districts Historical Society was formed partly to take care of it. They first met in the old school building in 2001.
This was originally a BillnCyndi cache, the final in their Kedron history series. It is now revived as a traditional cache. Congratulations to Que Sera for FTF.
