Geocache Description:

A HALL BY ANY OTHER NAME

Miners Rest was established in the early 1850’s predating the settlement of Ballarat, it became a very popular resting place for the miners as it was about half way between the gold fields  in Clunes and Buninyong hence the name Miners Rest.

The hall was originally built as a Mechanics Institute hall in 1888. After many years of service the front of the hall needed drastic work. A community member offered to do the repairs  free of charge but in the process he re-named the hall Miners Rest Community Hall.

The Hall Committee recently changed the name again to Miners Rest Mechanic’s Institute

Community Hall, the new sign was unveiled in November 2018, since then the hall has under gone considerable renovations taken on by the Ballarat City Council, updating it to meet present day standards, the new style is very much appreciated by the many community groups who use the hall  on a  regular basis.

PLEASE: Enter hall grounds via front gate DO NOT jump the fence, I have been given permission to hide the cache here, and would ask the grounds be treated with respect.
