Escher & Atrani Traditional Cache

The name of Maurits Cornelis Escher, ducth artist born in 1898, is inextricably linked to his woodcuts, lithographs and halftones that tend to present impossible constructions and explorations of the infinitive.

During the spring of 1923 Escher moved to the Amalfi coast where he also met his future wife and was literally struck by the persuasive plasticity of the light of the South and, above all, by the mixture of Roman, Greek and Saracen elements present in the architecture of Ravello, Atrani and Amalfi, all cities that left a profound imprint in his imagination: from the point where the cache is located you can admire (not exactly where escher described it) the tower of the Metamorphosis III.

Atrani is also described by Escher in other works. I let you to discover them among the alleys  after crossing.

CACHE

It is a white small plastic can that can be reached if you take the first stairs that meet after the tunnel in Atrani (please, see the photo). Photo or virtual log will not accepted and avoid without any notice.

Il nome di Maurits Cornelis Escher, artista olandese nato nel 1898 è indissolubilmente legato alle sue incisioni su legno, litografie e mezzetinte che tendono a presentare costruzioni impossibili, esplorazioni dell'infinito.

Escher nella primavera del 1923 si trasferì in costiera amalfitana, dove incontrò anche la sua futura moglie, e rimase letteralmente folgorato dalla suadente plasticità della luce del Mezzogiorno e, soprattutto, dalla commistione di elementi romani, greci e saraceni presente nelle architetture di Ravello, Atrani e Amalfi, tutte città campane che lasciarono un'impronta profonda nella sua fantasia: dal punto dove si trova la cache potrete ammirare (non proprio da dove la descrisse escher) la torre della Metamorphosis III.

Atrani è descritta anche in altri lavori che lascio a voi scoprire in giro per i vicoli attraversando Via della Metamorfosi sul lungomare.

CACHE

E’ un tubo bianco magnetico che si raggiunge salendo dalla prima scala che troverete uscendo dalla galleria arrivando ad Atrani (guardate la foto!) . Fotolog e log solo virtuali non saranno accettati e cancellati senza preavviso.
