Geocache Description:

Small loc-n-loc container located at the Mesnard Mine (or Quincy #8).

Originally organized as the Mesnard Mining Co. in 1859. It was taken over by the Pewabic Mining Co. in 1876 and sold to Quincy Mining Co. in 1897, thus becoming Quincy #8 Shaft. The shaft was extended to the 86th level, or approx. 8,600 feet on the incline (~ 6,000 ft. vertical). Between 1863 and 1877 the mine produced 84,000 lbs. of refined copper. Today the mine is owned by the Quincy Mine Hoist Association (QMHA).

The entire surface works were scrapped after the mine originally closed.  The existing buildings and head frame were added later for exploration of the mine with the thought of re-opening it.  No actual mining was done.

You can park on the highway and take the 4 wheeler trail to it or drive in on Mine St to the south.  The QMHA is ok with foot trafic on the land but is very strict about collecting (see picture of sign in images).
