Welcome to Blatchford, or as it has been known for many years "the old City Centre Airport". This is the first (of perhaps many) caches in Blatchford. As of the date of publication, there are no residents yet. Blatchford now has a cache though! The cache will allow you to come and take a first-hand look at the transformation of the old airport into a new, medium density, carbon-neutral residential neighbourhood being developed by the City of Edmonton. At the time this cache was placed (November 2019) the roads in here have only just recently been opened.
The cache will take you to next to a futuristic building that houses the (above-ground portion of the) Blatchford District Energy System. The Blatchford District Energy System uses geo-thermal technology and sewer heat to provide heating in the winter, as well as cooling in the summer. All homes and buildings in Blatchford will be connected to this system, providing residents with an innovative utility system that is intended to cost less and contribute to the project's goal of being "carbon-neutral".
Lots of development and construction going on around here, so watch for heavy vehicles. Cache is a bison tube. Please leave it attached where it is, and just remove the log.
Note: The roads of Blatchford are not yet on the Geocaching (or Google) map. Access is from Airport Road, SW of the cache. You can drive to within 40 meters of the cache.
