Geocache Description:

The Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill Local Nature Reserve

YOU MUST USE TWEEZERS! This is a fantastic public open space covering 130 acres, barely a mile from the city centre. Much loved by locals, it offers gentle walks alongside the Braid Burn, more strenuous walks on Blackford Hill, or even more challenging climbs up the quarry. The summit of the hill is a great vantage point to see the fireworks at Hogmanay or the Edinburgh Festival. There are trees here reckoned to be over two thousand years old. A haven for wildlife, Peedieduchess has seen deer, swans, geese, rabbits, foxes, bats, birds of prey, hundreds of dogs and several species of ducks. There are even some very peculiar species of duck known only to geocachers......

This geocache is one of 5 forming a series with a bonus mystery cache to finish. Don't forget to write down the information you need to find the bonus: each cache contains a letter and a number along with the logbook for you to sign.

There are 6 caches in all:

The 5 caches and bonus cache are spread out over quite a big area with varying terrains. Peedieduchess takes about 2 hours to walk round them all. The terrain can be very muddy, slippy, and tiring, so go prepared accordingly. There is no shame at all in completing them in easy stages! You can tackle them in any order you want. Sadly, the paths are unsuitable for wheelchair users. Please on the advice of the Scottish Natural Heritage officer who has encouraged the placement of this series, stay clear of the upper path that runs parallel to the back gardens of the houses in Braid Farm Road. That path is not maintained and has some sections that run dangerously close to a steep drop. Please use the suggested trailheads and be careful with children. You CAN walk safely between caches 2 and 3 but try to avoid the upper path west of there.

Some of the containers are very small, PLEASE take care when removing and replacing the log books. Roll them up neatly please. Take tweezers and pen with you.

Congratulations to Danale and MumofGeorge, they swept the board and were First to Find all 6 caches in the series! What a team!
