Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates, but it is within two miles. The difficulty is for the hide.

This is our 66th unknown cache hide, so this will be a tribute to one of hockey's greats, #66, Le Magnifique, Mario Lemieux. Super Mario began his career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League at age 15. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1984 and began his NHL career while still a teenager. Lemieux played his final game in 2006. He played in several All Star games during his career, and at age 36, he captained Canada to an Olympic gold medal, ending a 50 year drought for our neighbors to the North. Lemieux holds several NHL records, one of which is the most shorthanded goals scored in a season with 13, which he accomplished in the 1988-89 season. He also shares the record for most goals scored in a single period (4). To go along with his shorthanded success, Lemieux also holds the record for most power play points in a season with 80. One of his more famous accomplishments is one that has never been duplicated, when he scored 5 goals in 5 ways (even strength, shorthanded, power play, penalty shot, and empty net) in the same game. He has won 5 Stanley Cups-- 2 as a player and 3 as an owner. Lemieux earned several awards during his career. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP during both of his Stanley Cups as a player. He won the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league MVP 3 times and the Art Ross Trophy as the league's points leader 6 times. His number, 66, has been retired by the Pittsburgh Penguins, and he was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997, the same year of his first retirement, with the normal mandatory three year waiting period waived. Despite his career being shortened due to injuries and health issues, he is still considered to be one of the best players of all time, and his name, Lemieux, literally means "the best" in French.
