Geocache Description:

Please don't drive down Lockner Farm Lane to find this cache, there is nowhere really acceptable to park and the lane is regularly used by local residents to get home (or get away from home :)! If need be, though, there are buses that run along the A248 (Dorking Road) and stop opposite the end of the lane.

This cache, however, is part of a series created with cycling in mind. Access to both the virtual stage, where you need to obtain some information, and the final location, are both an easy ride out from Chilworth. If you are doing a longer walk, or cycle ride along the Downs Link, have no fear, you can do this cache in a few minutes - start to finish!

However, if you plan to head north up the Downs Link afterwards, you may have your work cut out for you. The route up to St Martha's is very narrow in parts. You will be on foot pushing your bike and, if it's a nice day on a weekend, you'll encounter walkers, dogs, and other cyclists with little room to pass.

If you are planning on returning DOWN the same path, or are just heading down from the top of St. Martha's Hill PLEASE SEE the DESCRIPTION on GC8FPT7:

Cache with a View? It'll Hafta Do :)

The published co-ordinates will take you to a signpost with information related to the remains of the Chilworth Gunpowder Mills, a beautiful location / walk, with interesting artefacts. There is also lots of interesting related history online. This cache has nothing in particular to do with the Gunpowder Plot! :)

Ingredients:
Saltpetre = AB %
Charcoal = CD %
Sulphur = EF %

G = Mixing Ingredients
H = Moisture Removal
I = Corning(Granulating)
J = Drying
K = Packing and Transporting

The final location of the cache is:

N 51° 13.C(I-F)(K-G) W 0° 31.(J-G)(B-H)(A+E)

Log sheets are double-boxed in a 60 ml container.

All the Downs Link caches can of course be found on foot though, from wherever you may begin or end your caching journey, you will probably need to return along the same route or use 2 cars, leaving your second at another point along the trail.

We have created a Public List of all the caches in this series (including some set by other owners) along the Downs Link trail. We will add new caches, to the list as they are created, though there won't be many more! :) Downs Link Bookmark List

More general information about this series, including many recommended parking locations, can be found on Downs Link - Garden Centre? which is the first cache of the group heading north from West Grinstead Old Station, recognised as the midpoint of the Downs Link bridleway.
