Öra kyrka sägs vara byggd i slutet av 1200-talet. Första kända dokumentet om kyrkan är från slutet av 1500-talet. På 1600-talet genomgick den en första renovering. 1820 gjordes nästa renovering då koret utvidgades och blev tresidigt. Senare byggde man till en sakristia. 1909 byggde man på ett torn av granit som fick ersätta klockstapeln på kyrkogården. Den gamla klockstapeln flyttades senare till Ramnaparken i Borås. Under medeltiden förmodas kyrkan ha varit helgad åt Sankt Olof. I kyrkans ägo finns en bevarad träskulptur av Sankt Olof från 1200-talet. Skulpturen finns idag deponerad på Borås Museum. Kvar i kyrkan finns en madonnaskulptur från mitten av 1200-talet samt en medeltida dopfunt.
Öra kyrka har också utgjort sceneriet för begravningarna i Colin Nutleys filmer om Änglagård. Även för interiören användes Öra kyrka som var ljus och har ett vackert ljusinsläpp genom glasmålningarna i altarfönstret. I den första Änglagårdsfilmen ligger Zac på en av gravstenarna på kyrkogården, och det är också här på Öra kyrkogård som Erik begravs. Avståndbilder filmades vid närbelägna Kärråkra kyrka, som ligger vackert på en ås. Även närbelägna Vånga Missionshus användes som församlingshem i filmerna. Flera av församlingens medlemmar var statister i filmerna.

Öra church is said to have been built in the late 13th century. The first known document on the church dates from the end of the 16th century. In the 17th century, it underwent an initial renovation. In 1820, the next renovation was done as the choir expanded and became three-sided. Later they were built into a sacristy. In 1909, a granite tower was built to replace the belfry in the cemetery. The old belfry was later moved to Ramnaparken in Borås. In the Middle Ages, the church is believed to have been dedicated to Saint Olof. In the church's possession is a preserved wooden sculpture of St. Olof from the 13th century. The sculpture is today deposited at the Borås Museum. Remaining in the church is a Madonna sculpture from the mid-13th century and a medieval baptismal font.
Öra Church has also formed the stage for the funerals in Colin Nutley's films about Änglagård. Also for the interior was used Öra church which was bright and has a beautiful light penetration through the glass paintings in the altar window. In the first Änglagårdsfilm, Zac lies on one of the tombstones of the cemetery, and it is also here at Öra cemetery that Erik is buried. Distant images were filmed at nearby Kärråkra church, which is beautifully situated on a ridge. Nearby Vånga Mission Houses were also used as parish halls in the films. Several of the members of the congregation were extras in the films.
