Fort Steele Rest Area Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lil Devil: Well I was wrong. Drove by here on my way to Indiana, and the entire place is cleared of all landscaping and pavement. Only the buildings remain. Any replacement cache will be a whole new experience so I'm going to archive this one. When the place opens again I'll try to hide a new cache.

Geocache Description:

This cache is at the Fort Steele Highway Rest Area. There is also a nice multi-cache here, and about 2 miles away is a cache near the remains of Fort Steele.

Fort Steele was established to protect the newly built Union Pacific Railroad from attacks by Native Americans during construction of the transcontinental railroad in the United States. The fort was built in the 1860s where the railroad crossed the North Platte River.
