Geocache Description:

The Mexican Grand Prix was first held on 4 November 1963 in the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit in Magdalena Mixhuca Park within Mexico City. There were no Formula One races in Mexico from 1971 through 1985 and again no races from 1991 until the series returned to Mexico in 2015.

The race is run at 2,240 m (7,340 ft) above sea level, and is also a bumpy race track from actively shifting soils beneath the circuit as Mexico City is built on an ancient lake bed. These conditions provide a challenge to engine engineers due to the lack of oxygen at this altitude. The lack of oxygen also contributes to driver fatigue.

Pole position initially went to Max Verstappen but after not slowing down under the Yellow in qualifying and making disparaging remarks about it he was penalized to starting in third position on the grid. As a result the pole went to the second fastest qualifier Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari.

The podium saw Lewis Hamilton in first place with Sebastian Vettel in second and Bottas in third. As Bottas finished high enough in the standings it denied Hamilton from winning his fifth world championship at this race.

The fastest lap was set by Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari with a time of 1:19.232 on the 4.304 km (2.674 mi) circuit.

The mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum in May announced that this would be the last race at this facility due to the high cost to the city but in August an agreement was reached to extend the contract for the Mexico F1 race until at least 2022 but it would be renamed the Mexico City Formula One Race.
