Geocache Description:

The Caballa Fortress known as Kustenbatterie Caballa was one of the many Austro-Hungarian Fortresses built to defend the Bay of Kotor from enemy naval vessels. This cache is the latest in our historic collection featuring Austro-Hungarian fortresses of Montenegro. It was constructed between 1895 and 1897 and was one of a group of eight defensive fortifications including two shore-based torpedo batteries. Caballa had four 15 cm coastal guns and four 21 cm coastal mortars, a garrison of 10 officers and 245 men. Exploring this wonderful relic is an amazing experience and this cache has been placed to encourage geocachers to discover the wonders of this period in Montenegro's history. If you would like to know more about these fortresses, can I recommend "The Austro-Hungarian Fortresses of Montenegro - A Hiker's Guide". It is available on Amazon or in So Knizara bookstore in Herceg Novi
