Yono city became Chuou-ku when Saitama city born newly in 2001and the place name called Yono has disappeared. The former Yono city is descrived as "Yono volost" in "Yudu Nenbutsu Engi Emak" established in 1341and it is indicated that the name was known in those days to Kyoto. In addition it prospered as a strategic point of Kamakura Highway in the Kamakura era and the trade of farm products such as rice was carried out flourishingly in "Yono market". Furthermore, when the Five Routes were maintained in the bigining of the Edo era, Yono prospered very much as a post town of the branch road of Nakasendou. It is regretable and exasperating that the histrical name Yono has turned into dreary name Chuo-ku. There are four stations having the name of "Yono" and such as Yono Station, Kita-Yono Station, Yono-Hommachi Station, Minami-Yono Station.
平成13年（2001）のさいたま市誕生により、与野市は中央区となり、与野と言う地名は消えてしまった。
旧与野市は、正和3年（1341）に成立した『融通念佛縁起絵巻』で「与野郷」とあり、その名が当時京都まで知られていたことが窺える。
また、鎌倉時代には鎌倉街道の要衝として繁栄し、米穀などの農産物の交易が「与野の市」で盛んに行われた。
更に、江戸時代に入り五街道が整備されると与野は中山道の脇往還の宿場町として大いに栄えた。
このように歴史のある与野が中央区と言う無味乾燥な地名に変わってしまったことは誠に残念で腹立たしい限りである。
現在「与野」は駅名として四つの駅に残っており、これらは与野駅、北与野駅、与野本町駅、南与野駅である。
