We have had some fun recently playing on our kayaks and knee boards exploring Oruamo / Hellyers Creek. On our adventures we spotted a couple of possible places to hide a geocache or two. Finally got around to putting some hopefully suitable containers together and now they are in place for you to find. Have fun and remember safety first.
Check the tides: Up to 2 hours either side of high tide should be ok. Check the forecast. The main channel of Oruamo / Hellyers Creek can get quite choppy with stronger westerly winds.
Best places to launch:
Manuka Reserve Boat Ramp - S36 46.716 E174 41.848
Kays Point Boat Ramp (only suitable for small craft. You will need to carry your equipment down a path from the road.) S36 47.113 E174 41.363
Hilders Park - S36 47.399 E174 40.726
To reach this hide you will need to be on your feet. The rocks are a little slippery so take care. Happy caching
