The story goes -

In the early 1930's Cock's ElDorado Gold Dredge (some research seems to indicate that it may have been Cocks Pioneer Electric Gold & Tin Sluicing Company, 1898 to 1941) needed a reliable water source for its sluicing, and so a dam was built at Kangaroo Crossing.

The purpose was to raise the creek level, and run the water all the way back to ElDorado via a water race cut into the hillside.

Upstream from Kangaroo crossing workers constructed a concrete dam wall with sluice gates allowing the water level to be controlled. There are five sluice gates in the wall.  There were slots on either side of each gate that allowed boards to be lowered in or lifted out to control the water level. To this day the only real damage that has occured to the wall is one slot in one gate has broken away.

The wall was constructed in a zig zag shape to take advantage of the granite footing across the creek. Steel rods were driven into the granite and the concrete wall was poured around these rods. Twenty-three of these rods are visible protruding from the wall.

Once the water level behind the dam had raised significantly it was let through a sluice gate on the northern end of the wall directly into a hand dug water race.

You are looking for an Ammo can under a rock. Once you are at the location you will realize that this doesn't realy help much. See hint if you need more help. The track in from Woolshed Rd can be very rutted and may not be suitable for low clearance vehicles. If this is you then park at Kangaroo crossing.
