Geocache Description:

This cache is placed in the Hurtwood in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, near the village of Holmbury St. Mary, with the permission of the Friends of the Hurtwood.

The Hurtwood is a beautiful natural environment used for many kinds of outdoor activities (one in particular that I enjoy from time to time, is relevant to the cache) and, from the summits of the hills, gives views all the way to the South Downs.  There are many parking areas provided in the Hurtwood, the two nearest the cache are at the indicated coordinates, but why not use one of the others, and experience more of the area?

The cache is between the main fire road and a less well travelled small track, and is easy to reach.  There can be mud.  The container is narrow, but has room for very small swaps. You will need to perform a "technical act" to retrieve the cache container.  The act is related to the location, the cache name and the activity I already mentioned.  If you have the knack, I'm sure you can do it with just your fingers.  (You might prefer to wear some gloves to keep your fingers clean).  If you need a lesson, a short wait should see a passerby come through who may well be able to help.

You also need to reverse the act to re-hide the cache; it takes a couple of minutes.  Inside the hiding place are some instructions to help you do that.  If you want to know what the act is that you need to perform, you should know that if you were unable to undo it, my friends Mark and Marc (and their friend Gordon) would get terribly upset.

[This is a new design for the cache, replacing the original that stopped working properly in wet weather.  The way of releasing the cache container is now completely different, but still has the same theme.  There are also instructions on YouTube for both opening and closing, but be aware, if you watch those before going to find the cache, you will spoil a lot of the fun of the cache.  Are you sure you want to watch them now?  How to open / How to close.]
