The developement, use, realignment, and sometimes eventual abandonment of roads is a fascinating study. Some become ancient historic ways, such as the old Roman roads that can still be seen. Some are modern historic routes, such as the ever-popular Route 66. Some old roads, such as the Kings Road or the Bellamy Road, were very significant in their time, are regional, and to some extent still used after 200+ years.
However, there are far more roads that started out as Indian trails, frontier roads, military "highways", cow tracks, tram ways, and the like, little-used, and long lost and forgotten by most. This ammo can is hidden along one of those, the old River Road. The new road goes to a "new" boat ramp, while this road was abandoned until its recent revival as the Otter Springs Park's "Loop Trail".
Enjoy the walk. It's quiet and lovely, and you may find some curious things along the way. Being newly re-opened, it is not yet often traveled by bike or golf cart.
