In order to find the cache, you need to decipher and translate a scrambled and encrypted message contained in the mysterious puzzle below.

Admittedly, this puzzle was designed to be tough and vague but, as time goes on, I probably will add a hint or two if people are struggling. Depending on one’s abilities, it may take up to 8 steps to solve. For now, I am not providing the order of the required steps, adding to the challenge. But I will tell you that the decryption steps use common ciphers, such as the obvious Freemason cipher above. Just to be somewhat fair, I am telling you that one step is a simple polyalphabetic cipher with an in-theme keyword based on the puzzle.
This puzzle is the first in a series of puzzle hides that I have placed on Mount Tamalpais. The puzzles will range in difficulty but maintain higher terrain ratings. All of the hides are ammo cans. If you like puzzles, ammo cans, and adventurous hiking, this series should be right up your alley! All caches are hidden off the beaten path, and I would suggest taking a friend along.
