It is difficult to imagine that this is a rural cemetery, since it is now located in the center of North Tonawanda!
Named for Colonel John Sweeney, a veteran of the War of 1812. Along with his brother, he is among the first to purchase land in North Tonawanda. Land that they owned was donated in 1868 to become this cemetery.
Other notable names/people buried here include: Allen Herschell; Christiana Long Smith; Zimmerman; DeGraff; Payne and others. As you drive around N.T., you are bound to see those names memorialized as streets!
Please be respectful of this cemetery. There is no need to harm any headstones, but feel free to wander and find a name you might reconize. There are also a handful of Zinc Markers!
ABSOLUTELY NO NIGHT CACHING!
