Where the cache lies, an Indian teepee once stood…well, maybe not, but on this peninsula 1000+ years ago was a large Native American settlement. Several years ago my son-in-law, a Ph.D. archaeologist, was hired to do a study to determine if Indians had once settled around Lake Vadnais. The study was funded by a Legacy Grant administered by the Minnesota Historical Society and awarded to the Shoreview Historical Society. I and other volunteers assisted him with the digs and we found many artifacts when sifting through the dirt we dug up. One spot a bit north of the cache location especially had many hundreds of artifacts, so was undoubtedly a large Indian encampment.
