This section of the Wyre Way runs from Skippool, an historic docks area but now home to mostly run-down vessels, to Stanah, where the Wyre Estuary Country Park is located.
Skippool creek, was a major trading port for hundreds of years, similarly to that of Wardley's Creek on the other side of the river.It is understood to have been in constant use from the end of the Middle Ages. Goods arrived at the docks from all over the world. Flax was brought in from Ireland and the Baltic; timber came from North America; and tallow arrived from Russia. More locally, limestone and oats were transported from Ulverston and coal from Preston.Its popularity fell out of favour when Fleetwood's port opened in the 1840s.
The 3.5km path runs along the West side of the estuary, is mostly flat, although it can be muddy and wet depending on the weather. The path dries out once you are North of the boat graveyard. Refreshments and toilets are available at Wyre Estuary Country Park you can also park there and walk South.
From the Wyre Road car park, head North along the road to the Blackpool and Fylde Yacht Club and pass in front of it, the gravel path becomes visible shortly after the Yacht Club.
