Kaniksu Land Trust purchased 160 acres of wide open meadows and forests with varied terrain just minutes from downtown Sandpoint. Come explore this area Sunday of Martin Luther King weekend. We will gather around the new rental shop. There you can rent snow shoes if needed. If there is no snow, these trails are excellent for walking as well. Five new caches have been placed along the trials and there are three previous ones near by. After we visit and get our gear those that choose can head out on the trails. The trek will be a maximum of 2 miles. Allow 2 plus hours.
There are two ways to access Pine Street Woods. From Sandpoint head west on Pine Street. (Note to the locals: This is not the same access as Greta's Segway.) Follow Pine Street around until you see small a brown Pine Street Woods sign. Enter there. If you are coming from Priest River, you do not need to go all the way into Sandpoint. Look for West Pine Street which is a left turn at the Northern Lights Dover Switch Yard. It is a well maintained gravel road that will take you to the entrance. Upon entering, follow the windy road a mile to the parking lot.
