Geocache Description:

It is no secret to anyone that lots of fairies like to live in trees. Whether it’s at the bottom of the garden, close to rivers and lakes or in parks or walkways, fairies simply love trees! Did you know that all magical beings originated from on specific magical tree? Well it’s true, they did, from the Nordman Tree.

Over the past year we have relocated 6 groups of Woodland Fairies into special purpose built fairy trails all over Ireland. On each trail the fairies have filled the trees with magic and wonder for many specific purposes. For example on each trail there is a Worry Tree and a Wishing Tree. The Worry Tree has a special plaque attached to it. Did you know that Mother Nature has given each Worry Tree the power to take your worries away when you place your hand upon it?

The Wishing Tree will always have a Wishing Seat close by and will generally house a fairy who can grant wishes. If you close your eyes tightly and make your silent wish, the fairy is sure to hear it!

Since all fairies originated on the branch of the Nordman Tree, you can understand that there is a very special bond between fairies and trees in general. In fact Queen Kate has described how many Woodland Fairies will often sit on a branch of a tree late at night and stay there until morning completely silent and unmoving. Although they may look still and pensive,

Queen Kate has explained to us that an awful lot more is actually taking place… “When a fairy sits for a long time appearing quiet and pensive upon a branch of a tree he or she is actually having a deep and meaningful conversation with that tree. You see to communicate with a tree, fairies tap into one of their many magical senses and channel all their thoughts silently directly into the centre of that tree. This is where the connection is made. Speaking and connecting with a tree is a very special feeling for a fairy. Talking to a tree is a lovely feeling. Kind of like having a big warm cosy blanket put over you on the coldest of winter nights or like getting a lovely soothing warm hug just when you need it most”.

Did you know that trees, just like fairies, have a special fondness for humans? Trees see everyone who passes by and remembers everyone too. Kate explained to us that when trees first came to be upon the earth, a decision was made as to how they would look. Would they be short or tall, have deep roots or short ones. Would they all have leaves or only some? These decisions that were made all those many many years ago are still what you see today. Trees have deep roots and generally tower over us humans. This is so they can shelter and protect us and of course all of our animal and magical friends. They take great pride in providing shelter and homes for many different species none more so than fairies. Did you know that the rustle of a tree’s leaves is actually their own unique song? And that no two tree’s song is exactly the same? Trees are spectacular listeners too.

They are very, very much alive. Queen Kate explains a little more… “Trees are alive! They have a heart and a soul, some so old their likes will never be seen again. The soul of a tree can be healing to both fairy and human-kind. Like all things magical, you just need to believe. All fairies whether they are Woodland or House Fairies learn all about the power of a tree when they are in Fairy College. Being able to communicate with a tree is a very precious gift which fairies are very lucky to have. That is not to say that humans cannot also enjoy the power of a tree. Finding a tree to sit under and have some quiet time can be also very beneficial to a human. This is why we, along with the help from all at The Irish Fairy Door Company, have brought you the Worry Tree. Simply place your hand on a Worry Tree and it will be sure to help take your worries away”.

It has been well documented that trees are so hugely important to human life. Until now it is relatively unknown how important trees are to our little winged friends. To harm or damage a tree intentionally does not go unnoticed. When a tree is hurt, that night you can be sure that a group of fairies will gather around and hug it so tightly that it will instantly begin to heal. (Pruning a tree is also important and should not be confused with intentional damage). It is sad to say that some trees are damaged beyond repair and sometimes this is unavoidable, but there are times when fairies and humans need to stand together (metaphorically of course!) and protect these beautiful gifts we have all been given. So the next time you are out and about look at the trees around you, look high into their branches, listen to their song… Place your hand on their trunk and let them take your worries away. And don’t forget to make a wish too!
