This section of forest, known as "The Bubble", is owned by the Orono Land Trust (OLT) and part of the Piney Knoll Conservation Area (PKCA). You'll pass a large kiosk and memorial if you enter the forest via Colburn Drive - the memorial is for Sally Jacobs, a founding member of OLT who worked tirelessly to protect these woods from further development.
